Club Championships
On Sunday the annual Ely City Club Championships took place in very testing conditions thanks to the weather. Two players stood out from the crowd, Chris Page and Chris Nixon as they won the handicap and scratch trophies respectively. This was Chris Page's first club championship as he is a relatively new member here at the golf club and with superb rounds of nett 69 and 69 proved too good in the handicap trophy. In the scratch event it was a battle between Chris Nixon and Luke Ryan, after rounds of 72 and 71 in the morning it was still all to play for. Both of these rounds were excellent given the worsening conditions throughout the morning.
In the afternoon Chris shot a very good 71 against Luke's 76 giving Chris a total of 143- 1 under par to win the scratch trophy by 4 shots. It was pleasing for me as earlier in the year Chris had invested some time with me to look at his swing and during this time we worked on his rhythm and timing. (To book a lesson click here) As with most good players its only small adjustments that make all the difference, so next time you are on the course in windy conditions try to focus on your swing tempo as this can make all the difference.
Chris said to me after the presentation "I know it's a cliché but I just focused on one shot at a time and didn't think or worry about what anyone was doing around me. I stuck to my game plan and managed to hit some good shots at the right time". Below you can see the results from the club championships and well done to everyone who took part.

Ely City Golf Club Pro Am - Friday 22nd of August
The Pro Am is gathering momentum as we get ever closer to the 22nd of August. This event is a highlight in the club calendar as we get to host some of the leading PGA professionals in the region. Spaces for teams are still available so if you would like to enter a team let me know as soon as you can. Your day will include 18 holes with a PGA Professional followed by a two course meal and the chance to win some excellent prizes. If you haven't had the chance to play in a Pro Am before this is a fun team event where the two best scores count towards the team total on each hole.
