PGA Show

I’ve just been to the PGA demo day at Orange County Golf Club to test all the latest products. Very impressed with the new PING G710 irons which just went forever.

The all new black-headed clubs take forgiveness and distance to another level. There was a lot of interest in the Callaway Mavrik and the driver felt so solid to hit. I have placed orders for them and they will be in the shop soon.

At the demo day, a number of top players come to put on clinics and this year was no exception. Legends Sir Nick Faldo and Greg Norman showed they still have it.

Norman flew himself in by helicopter, had three practice swings and then flushed driver.

Lexi Thompson was also very impressive. She hit about twenty shots and never missed one, all dead straight and long.

She was hitting 7 irons to start with 170yds then driver 285 yds.

The first day at the show and I had 15k steps under my belt!

It’s an amazing show and takes a good couple of days to see everything but also a great opportunity to talk to the manufacturers and meet some very interesting people.

Layer up

Last week we talked about one of our favourite topics: rain! Whilst waterproof protection is key for staying dry when caught in a downpour, combining layers of clothing underneath is vital if you want to enjoy the warmth without being so restricted that you can’t complete your backswing.

What do we mean by layering?

Lots of golfers are still in the habit of putting on as many layers as they possibly can in the winter to combat the cold – a vest, turtleneck, polo, sweater and jacket – but today’s golf clothing could easily cut that down by half.
