The first major of the year starts this week at Augusta National for the 2014 Masters. This is one of my favourite tournaments to watch with the stunning presentation of the golf course and the fast undulating greens. As always it will be high drama and hopefully we will see an Englishman wearing the green jacket come Sunday evening. It's this time of year that many golfers who have stopped playing over the winter start to appear and get back into golf. With this in mind why not consider kicking your season off in the right way with a lesson or two from one of the PGA Professionals here at Ely City Golf Club. Ely is one of only a few clubs that's lucky enough to have three fully qualified PGA Professionals who can help improve your golf and increase your enjoyment while out playing this summer. SLOW PLAY & ETIQUETTE
As the weather improves and more and more golfers head out onto the course it's understandable that pace of play is going to slow down and frustrate many of you. It has been brought to my attention that some members are playing at a particularly slow pace and when golfers are behind them they never let the faster group play through. To enjoy your game more and help others enjoy theirs please remember to keep up with the group in front and if the group behind are playing faster than you please let them through. Below are a few tips to help keep the speed of play moving along more consistently.
1: Leave your bags and trolleys beside the green whilst putting, not at the front of the green. Once you have putted out leave the putting green and fill your scorecard out on the next tee.
2: If you believe that the ball you have hit is out of bounds or maybe lost, play a provisional ball. By doing this it saves time as you wont need to walk back to the tee/place you played from to play another shot.
3: If you lose ground on the group in front and you can see a group or groups of golfers backing up behind you PLEASE let a group through.

Ladies Jean Wilkinson Trophy 2014
The 2014 Jean Wilkinson trophy got under way for the Ely Ladies on the 3rd of April with a home tie against a tough Abbotsley team. Ely fought hard and managed to half with Abbotsley with notable performances from Jane Webster, Maureen Hagen, Sue Didlick and Carol Harrison. Last Tuesday the ladies took on Girton in their second match of the group stage. I'm pleased to report that Ely proved too strong and won the match 10-4 with strong performances from Jane Webster, Pat Nixon, Christine Ratcliffe, Tina Forbes and Ros Grey. Well done to all the ladies who have represented Ely so far and good luck in your upcoming matches.
